OBIO/AKPOR COUNCIL BOSS EXTOLS THE ROLES OF WAR VETERANS AND FALLEN HEROES …as Dr. Worlu reaffirms commitment to the welfare of family of fallen heroes in Obio/Akpor

The Chairman of Obio-Akpor Local Government Area, Hon. Dr. Gift Worlu, has extolled the patriotic role played by war veterans and fallen heroes who laid down their lives in defense of dear nation.
Dr. Worlu made this known during commemoration of the 2026 Armed Forces rememberance Day held at the Council Headquarters in Rumuodomaya. He described the event as a solemn national occasion dedicated to honour the courage, sacrifice, and enduring legacies of the men and women of the Nigerian Armed Forces who paid the ultimate prize in service to the nation.
According to him, the day provides an opportunity for reflection on the extraordinary sacrifices made by Nigeria’s fallen heroes those who fought in the First and Second World Wars, the Nigerian Civil War, international peacekeeping missions, and ongoing internal security operations. He noted that the peace, unity, and relative stability enjoyed in the country today are the result of their unwavering commitment to duty, even in the face of grave danger.
The Council Chairman further stated that the service rendered by veterans and fallen heroes stands as a powerful symbol of professionalism, resilience, and loyalty to the nation. He emphasized that the occasion calls on leaders, institutions, and citizens alike to uphold the values for which these heroes fought.
Dr. Worlu reaffirmed that Obio-Akpor Local Government remains steadfast in its support for security agencies and continues to strengthen community based peace and security as a foundation for sustainable grassroots development.
“On behalf of the Government and the good people of Obio-Akpor Local Government Area, I reaffirm our commitment to supporting all initiatives that promote the welfare and dignity of our veterans and fallen heroes,” he said.
Dr. Worlu concluded by stating that Armed Forces Remembrance Day serves as a moral compass, reminding Nigerians that the renewed hope being pursued as a nation must be built on sacrifice, discipline, and collective responsibility.
Earlier, ACC Sir. Dandison Chigonum Bekwele (Rtd), Chairman of the Nigerian Legion Rivers State Command, Obio-Akpor chapter, praised the Chairman for being the first Akpor man to become the elected Chairman of Obio-Akpor. He noted that the occasion is an annual event to celebrate Fallen Heroes who sacrificed their lives for the nation.
He appealed to the Executive Chairman to consider supporting the widows and children of fallen heroes.
The event culminated in the lowering of wreaths accompanied with canon shots in honor of the fallen heroes and war veterans.
