The Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, Hon. Dr. Gift Worlu, has received officials of the Rivers State Agency for Adult and Non-Formal Education (RSANNFE) during a strategic stakeholders’ engagement held at the Council Secretariat in Obio/Akpor.
Representing the Chairman at the meeting, the Vice Chairman of Obio/Akpor LGA, Dr. Joyce Nyeche, delivered an inspiring address underscoring the critical role of education—both formal and non-formal—in societal development.
Dr. Joyce Nyeche, who traced her professional roots to the education sector, noted that education remains a lifelong process that must not be denied anyone.
According to her, many women and youths in rural communities are still denied access to education due to cultural beliefs, ignorance, and economic hardship.
In his address, the Director of RSANNFE, Mr. Elebedim Gift, expressed appreciation to the Obio/Akpor Council for approving the strategic engagement and commended the cordial partnership between the Agency and the Council, particularly in vocational training.
He recalled that between November 2023 and May 2024, about 400 men, women, and youths were trained at the Obio/Akpor Skill Acquisition Centre in Rumuepirikom.
Mr. Elebedim urged the Chairman to approve the establishment and expansion of these centres, describing Obio/Akpor as strategically positioned to become a pace setter in adult and non-formal education in Rivers State.
Signed:
Goodluck Nsirim
