OBIO/AKPOR, ETCHE MOVE TO END LAND, BOUNDARY DISPUTES

Obio/Akpor and Etche Local Government Areas of Rivers State have taken decisive steps to resolve the lingering land and boundary disputes affecting communities along their shared borders.
The move was formalised during a high-level meeting held at the Council Secretariat of Obio/Akpor, with the Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, Hon. Dr. Gift Worlu, and the Chairman of Etche Local Government Area, Hon. Chima Njoku, in attendance.
Also present at the meeting was the Surveyor-General of Rivers State, Mr. Peter Ogolo, alongside traditional rulers and critical stakeholders from the affected boundary communities.
In his remarks, Hon. Dr. Gift Worlu emphasized the need for peaceful coexistence and sustainable development, noting that unresolved boundary issues have hindered progress and strained relationships between neighbouring communities. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to dialogue, fairness, and lawful resolution of disputes.
Similarly, Hon. Chima Njoku called for cooperation from all parties, stressing that the peace and unity of the people must take precedence over individual or sectional interests. He assured that the Etche Local Government Council remains committed to working collaboratively with Obio/Akpor to achieve a lasting solution.
The Surveyor-General, Mr. Peter Ogolo, highlighted the importance of technical input and proper documentation in resolving boundary matters, assuring that his office would provide the necessary professional guidance to ensure accuracy and transparency in the process.
As part of resolutions reached at the meeting, a joint committee was inaugurated to oversee and address the boundary issues. The committee is expected to engage stakeholders, review relevant documents, and make recommendations that will bring a permanent resolution to the disputes.
