The Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, Hon. Dr Gift Worlu , has paid a solidarity visit to Gift Isi, a young baker from Rivers State, who is attempting to break the Guinness World Record for the Longest Baking Marathon by an Individual.Hon. Worlu, who visited the venue of the ongoing record attempt, said his visit was to identify with “one of our own” and to celebrate the spirit of courage, resilience, and self-belief exhibited by the baker.
“We are here to identify with one of our own. I got the information this morning and decided to come and celebrate the true spirit of Rivers people — the spirit of courage, resilience, and self-belief,” the Council Boss stated.
The Chairman commended Gift Isi for showcasing the creativity and determination that Rivers youths are known for, noting that her effort represents the indomitable spirit of the state.
“I have spoken with my brother Chairmen of Ikwerre, Emohua, Port Harcourt City LGAs to also identify with her. We want to use this opportunity to tell other sons and daughters of Rivers State that we care for them and will always support them when they engage in worthy causes like this,” he added.
Hon. Gift Worlu expressed optimism that the baker would achieve her goal and bring pride to Obio/Akpor and the state of Rivers as a whole.
“I believe she will win, and when she wins, we will all gather to celebrate her. We will send our support — financial and otherwise — to make this possible. When she wins, we all win,” he said.
The Obio/Akpor Chairman also used the occasion to encourage young people to discover and develop their talents while shunning social vices.
“Every human being has a talent and a gift. As we attend school and acquire knowledge, we should utilise it effectively. Let’s run away from drugs, cultism, and all other things that destroy us. Let’s embrace productive ventures like this for the good of ourselves and society,” Hon. Worlu advised.
He concluded by reaffirming his administration’s commitment to youth development and empowerment through initiatives that promote creativity, innovation, and positive engagement.
“If we follow this path, Obio/Akpor will be a better place for all of us. Rivers State will be a better place for all of us. Nigeria will be a better place for all of us,” he concluded.
