The Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, Hon. Dr. Gift Worlu, hereby issues this directive to all residents, traders, business operators, motor park unions, transport operators, and other stakeholders within the Local Government Area:Effective immediately, no person or group is permitted to carry out any form of commercial activity, roadside motor parks, loading/unloading zones, trading, display of goods, construction, or placement of structures within two (2) meters (approximately six feet) from the edge of any public road or drainage right-of-way.
This directive is issued in the interest of public safety, to prevent road obstruction and illegal encroachments, to protect the statutory right of way, and to safeguard lives and property from road-related hazards, amongst others.
All market leaders, business owners, community development committee (CDC) chairmen, motor park unions (including NURTW, RTEAN, and other transport associations), property owners, and landlords are to take immediate note of this directive and ensure strict compliance within their respective areas. Landlords and property owners are further directed to warn their tenants and remove any unauthorized structures within the stipulated clearance zone.
Defaulters shall be subject to immediate removal of structures, confiscation of goods, sealing of premises, arrest, prosecution, and other penalties as may be prescribed by the Obio/Akpor Local Government Bye-Laws and all other extant laws.
The Council has mobilized its Task Force on Environmental Sanitation, and Traffic to commence full enforcement from Wednesday 12th November, 2025. A 7-day grace period is hereby granted for voluntary compliance.
Obio/Akpor Local Government Council remains committed to maintaining order, safety, aesthetic standards, and the general well-being of all residents.
