The Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, Hon. Dr Gift Worlu, has inaugurated a Caretaker Committee for the Community Development Committee (CDC) of Eneka, with a clear mandate to restore peace, unity, and order in the community within six months.The inauguration ceremony, held at the Obio/Akpor Council Secretariat in Rumuodomaya, was attended by council officials, community representatives, and other key stakeholders.
In his address, Hon. Dr. Gift Worlu expressed dissatisfaction with the lingering leadership crisis in Eneka, describing it as a threat to peace and development. He noted that while other communities in the local government area had resolved their internal disputes amicably, the situation in Eneka had persisted despite several peace meetings convened by the council.
“I will say that, first, I am not too happy with the state of affairs in Eneka,” the council boss stated. “Many of our communities have pockets of leadership problems, but while others like Rupokwu went back and settled their issues peacefully, Eneka has continued to struggle with division.
I cannot fold my hands and allow what is clearly a threat to the peace of Eneka and, by extension, the entire Obio/Akpor. Therefore, with the consent of other council officials, we have decided to wield the big stick to restore peace and order in the community.”
Hon. Dr Gift Worlu explained that the appointment of the caretaker committee was not a punitive measure but a peace-restoration intervention, adding that the committee was expected to operate with fairness, inclusiveness, and transparency.
“What we have done, we have done with utmost fairness, trying to carry everybody along,” he said. “Based on the powers vested in me as Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, I hereby inaugurate Rev. Dr. Fynface Akah, JP, DSSRS, and other members of the caretaker committee to pilot the affairs of Eneka CDC for the next six months.
During this period, I expect you to bring the Eneka people together and establish a CDC that serves the entire community, not just a select section of it. Be fair to all men and work patriotically for the peace and progress of Eneka.”
The Chairman commended members of the caretaker committee for accepting to serve, describing their appointment as a sacrifice born out of love for community development. He particularly praised Rev. Dr. Fynface Akah for his humility and leadership qualities, noting that his presence would inspire confidence and unity in the community.
Responding on behalf of the newly inaugurated committee, Ven. (Dr.) Fynface Ndubisi Akah, DSSRS, JP, thanked the council chairman for his proactive and people-oriented leadership, acknowledging his tireless efforts in mediating the prolonged leadership crisis in Eneka.
“Thank you, Hon. Dr. Gift Worlu, for your passionate engagement with our people,” Ven. Akah said. “This misunderstanding in Eneka lasted for close to five weeks, but your resolve to restore order and your decision to constitute this caretaker committee are clearly in line with God’s plan for our community.
We assure you that this team will work tirelessly to achieve your expectations. With the help of God, we will restore peace, unity, and ensure that the structures laid by our forefathers are preserved and strengthened.”
The newly inaugurated caretaker committee has been given a six-month mandate to reconcile all aggrieved parties, rebuild trust among stakeholders, and reestablish a functional and inclusive CDC for the Eneka community.
