The Department of Education in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area oversees a broad range of sectors, including Culture & Tourism, Social Welfare, Youth and Sports, and Information. The Department is committed to driving educational advancement, preserving cultural heritage, promoting tourism initiatives, and delivering essential social welfare services within the LGA.
Core Responsibilities
The Department plays a vital role in the development and administration of key community programs and services, including:
Promotion and supervision of educational development across the LGA
Preservation and promotion of cultural heritage and tourism
Coordination of social welfare services for residents
Youth and sports development initiatives
Organization of major civic events such as Armed Forces Remembrance Day and Independence Day (October 1st)
Coordination and support of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members, including:
Reception from orientation camps
Welfare and support services during their service year
Registration and regulation of social clubs and associations within the LGA
Planning and execution of community celebrations such as Children’s Day
Partnership with the Local Government Chairperson in hosting the International Day of the Girl Child
Inspection and monitoring of government schools within Obio/Akpor LGA
