CONSTITUTION OF COMMITTEE ON ENFORCEMENT OF ILLEGAL TAXES AND LEVIES IN OBIO/AKPOR LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA.

This is to inform the general public that the Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area Hon.Dr.Gift Worlu has constituted a committee on the enforcement of illegal taxes and levies in the LGA. The committee headed by Chief Kennedy Chijioke Akaninwa has the following as it’s mandate…

(1) To Identify, investigate and put an end to all forms of illegal taxes,levies, and extortion within the LGA.

(2)To ensure that only
approved revenues are collected by duly authorized persons

(3) To arrest and prosecute any individual or group found imposing unlawful levies on citizens and businesses.

(4) Recommend appropriate sanctions against any government official or staff found complicit in the perpetration of these sharp and unwholesome practices.

(5)Submit periodic reports and recommendations to the council chairman for further policy actions.

This action is in pursuant to the powers confered on the Local Government by the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), Rivers State Local Government Law,and other enabling legislations.

It is also in line with the chairman’s efforts to create a concuducive environment for business growth,forestall exploitation and harassments of residents and business owners operating within the LGA.
