Obio/Akpor Local Government Area has commenced a comprehensive training programme for taskforce officials as part of ongoing reforms aimed at improving the council’s taskforce system, particularly within the transport sector.
The training is designed to equip taskforce personnel with the requisite knowledge, skills and professional conduct necessary for the effective discharge of their responsibilities, while ensuring that their activities align with the policies and objectives of the Local Government Council.
Speaking at the training, the Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Council, Hon. Dr. Gift Worlu, represented by the Council Secretary, Dr. Kelvin Akani, emphasised the importance of professionalism, discipline and civility in the conduct of taskforce officials.
Dr. Akani urged members of the various taskforce units to conduct themselves responsibly and respectfully in the discharge of their duties, stressing that their actions and interactions with members of the public must reflect the values and standards of the Council.
He further disclosed that the Local Government Council has established a dedicated Complaints Unit to receive and address complaints from members of the public. According to him, the initiative is aimed at monitoring the activities of taskforce officials, checking possible excesses and ensuring accountability in the system.
He noted that the establishment of the Complaints Unit would provide members of the public with an avenue to report cases of misconduct and other concerns involving taskforce personnel, thereby helping to prevent incidents capable of tarnishing the image of the Council.
The training features resource persons and representatives from relevant agencies and stakeholders, including the Nigeria Police Force, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and other critical stakeholders within the transport sector.
The Local Government Council reiterated its commitment to implementing reforms that will promote efficiency, professionalism, accountability and improved service delivery across the transport sector and the Local Government Area as a whole.
