OBO/AKPOR COUNCIL SEEKS STRONGER SECURITY TIES WITH NNS PATHFINDER

The Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, Hon. Dr. Gift Worlu, earlier this Friday led some principal officers of the council on a familiarization visit to the Commander of NNS Pathfinder, Commodore M. I. Raji, at the naval base in Rumuolumeni.
Speaking during the visit, Dr. Gift Worlu said the essence of the engagement was to formally welcome the Commander and strengthen collaboration between the council and the Nigerian Navy in the interest of peace and security.
The chairman assured the Navy of the council’s readiness to provide all necessary support within its capacity to enhance operational efficiency. He reiterated that his administration is committed to creating a peaceful and secure environment that would enable residents and businesses to thrive.
The chairman emphasized that security remains a top priority of his administration, noting that Obio/Akpor, as a gateway to Port Harcourt and host to critical national assets, must maintain strong synergy with security agencies.
In his remarks, the Commander of NNS Pathfinder, Commodore M. I. Raji, appreciated the visit and highlighted the strategic importance of the naval base in the security framework of Rivers State and the wider Niger Delta region.
He stated that NNS Pathfinder serves as a critical and strategic hub for securing the Niger Delta, conducting anti-crude oil theft operations, defending key infrastructure such as the Bonny Oil Terminal, and maintaining maritime security across its area of responsibility.
The Commander further assured the council of the Navy’s unwavering commitment to ensuring peace and stability in the region. He expressed readiness to sustain collaboration with the local government to strengthen security operations and promote a conducive atmosphere for economic growth.
