The Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, Hon. Dr. Gift Worlu, has declared that Rivers State cannot make meaningful progress through conflict, emphasizing that only peace, unity, and collective commitment can deliver the development the people desire.
Dr. Worlu made the call on Wednesday during the groundbreaking and foundation-laying ceremony of Riven Medical Industry Pharmaceutical Factory in Rumuosi, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, where he formally welcomed the Governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminalayi Joseph Fubara, and members of his entourage.
In his welcome address, the council chairman described the project as a significant milestone in the state’s industrial and healthcare development, noting that the pharmaceutical factory would create employment opportunities, improve healthcare delivery and stimulate economic growth.
On behalf of the people of Rivers State, he warmly received the Governor and commended his administration for attracting such a strategic investment to Obio/Akpor.
Dr. Worlu appealed to stakeholders, traditional rulers and community leaders to give the Governor their maximum support and ensure that the project is successfully completed for the benefit of present and future generations.
He also reminded residents that Rivers State remains one united family regardless of political differences, stressing that peace remains the foundation for sustainable development.
The Obio/Akpor chairman maintained that if the state cannot make progress in peace, there is no way it can make progress in war, adding that working together in unity is the only path to building the Rivers State of everyone’s dream.
Speaking during the ceremony, Governor Sir Siminalayi Joseph Fubara publicly declared his support for the Rainbow Coalition, endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in office, and announced Rep. O.K. Chinda as his preferred governorship candidate for Rivers State.
The Governor said peace had returned to Rivers State and disclosed that he had reunited with his political family, urging his supporters across the state to align themselves with the Rainbow Coalition.
He also declared his support for President Tinubu’s re-election bid and called on all those who believe in his leadership to support every candidate presented by the coalition, including Rep. O.K. Chinda.
Fubara further appealed to his supporters not to delay joining the coalition in anticipation of political appointments or personal benefits, explaining that he had already returned to his political family and urging everyone to give their total support to the Rainbow Coalition.
The ceremony attracted top government officials, political leaders, traditional rulers, community stakeholders, party supporters and residents, who described the pharmaceutical factory project as a landmark investment expected to strengthen healthcare services, create employment opportunities and accelerate industrial development in Rivers State.
